In appreciation of a high level of academic excellence which the institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth have achieved and the potential that they have, the Government of India, on the recommendations of the University Grants Commission (UGC); an apex statutory body entrusted with the responsibility of higher education; accorded the status of Deemed to be University, in April 1996 to initially 12 colleges/institutions of Bharati Vidyapeeth. Subsequently, 3 more institutions were brought, and two more are in the process of being brought, within the ambit of Bharati Vidyapeeth University.
